(Kingston, October 25, 2025) JPS is urging all members of the public to check the official JPS communication channels for credible information. This, in the wake of fake news misinforming the public that JPS will be turning off the light at 1:30pm on Saturday October 25 due to the impending arrival of Tropical Storm Melissa. “The Company has no such intention,” clarified Director of Corporate Communications, Winsome Callum. “The system will remain operational, for as long as it is feasible to do so,” she emphasized.
Meanwhile, she has encouraged all persons requiring information to check the JPS website at jpsco.com, join the JPS WhatsApp Channel, check the MyJPS Mobile App or follow the JPS social media pages @myjpsonline.
JPS also wishes to remind persons, that once the weather system has passed, depending on the severity, persons may experience outages for extended periods. Restoration activities will commence after the Company’s power delivery infrastructure has been assessed for readiness. Essential services will be first in line, followed by major industrial zones and urban centres. Small communities and individuals will be restored after the above groups.
“This is a time to remain calm, focussed and properly informed, while we care for each other,” reminded Callum.
