JPS Offers Free Charging at All JPS Charge ‘n Go Stations This Independence and Emancipation Day

Kingston, Jamaica , July 30, 2026— JPS is giving Jamaicans another reason to celebrate this holiday season: free electric vehicle charging at all JPS Charge ‘n Go stations islandwide on Emancipation Day, August 1, and Independence Day, August 6. On both holidays, charging will be free from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., giving electric vehicle (EV) owners 24 hours to power up at no cost, as they travel to celebrations, family gatherings and getaways across the island. 

The free-charging holiday offer is the latest expression of JPS’ ongoing support for electric vehicle (EV) adoption.  Through its ongoing partnership with ATL Automotive, Stewarts Automotive Group and Flash Motors, JPS has, since 2025, offered new EV owners a range of attractive incentives, such as discounts on their electricity bills, in addition to the big win of reducing the cost of fuelling transportation by 30 to 50%.  While the initial upfront cost of electric vehicles may be higher than traditional vehicles, the savings on fuel and maintenance ultimately makes the switch more practical and appealing for everyday Jamaicans, making it a win-win experience.

As more Jamaicans choose EVs, JPS is simultaneously expanding the charging network that supports them, with 45 chargers now available across the island. That network has been recently expanded, with two new charging locations recently added: 

●      Total Energies, Salem, Runaway Bay, St. Ann — 4 charging points (240kW fastest chargers in the island) 

●      Harbour City Mall, Montego Bay, St. James — 4 charging points

Since JPS introduced its electricity discount bill incentives for new EV owners, participating auto dealers have collectively sold over 200 EVs, a signal of growing national confidence in electric mobility and in JPS’ role in driving it forward. Dealers islandwide have credited the incentives not only with boosting sales, but with shifting public perception and encouraging more Jamaicans to make the switch.

The initiative has been particularly beneficial for customers transitioning from petrol to electric vehicles, as it helps offset their initial electricity costs, in the early stages, when customers are still becoming familiar with their BYD vehicles’ charging habits. 

As a result, the transition has been more attractive for customers, contributing to lower overall energy expenses and ultimately, a reduced cost of ownership.
