Monday’s Bush Fire in the vicinity of Dyke Road, Caused Outages in Sections of Portmore and Spanish Town

All Customers now restored

(Kingston, Jamaica – August 11, 2026)JPS is advising that Monday’s (August 10) bush fire in the vicinity of the Soapberry Treatment Plant off the Dyke Road in Portmore, caused four transmission poles to be damaged, as well as a section of a transmission line in the area, resulting in two outages in sections of the Portmore Community, and eventually sections of Spanish Town as well.   After the first outage at 10:30a.m., JPS teams conducted interim repairs and were able to restore customers within an hour, while other repairs continued.

The second outage occurred at around 8:37pm.  Teams worked on repairs and restoration simultaneously, with customers beginning to be restored within 30 minutes of that outage.  Full restoration was completed at 11:40p.m.  

JPS has continued to keep customers up-to-date via text messages, its social media pages, and its WhatsApp channel.

The Company is reminding members of the public, of the dangers of starting fires, especially near to utility poles and wires. It is also encouraging persons to report any unusual activity around its poles.
