Fifty children from the community of Farm Heights in St. James got to unwind and benefit from the JPS Foundation’s Summer Camp Ablaze, in collaboration with the St. James Parish Library and the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA). The camp which was held from July 26 – 30, featured children who were able to partake in academics, extracurricular and personal development activities, and vocational skills such as farming techniques.

These skills were harnessed through activities such as art & craft, photography, storytelling and treasure hunting, just to name a few. Nathaniel, one of the campers expressed, “I enjoyed camp, it was both educational and fun. It was fun to interact with other students and the teachers were very helpful, kind, and pleasant.” To culminate the week, campers were treated with well-needed school items such as school bags, pencils, books and other useful stationery items. Campers also received certificates of participation for their involvement in Summer Camp Ablaze.

This project which is an initiative led by the JPS Foundation and was started in 2015, received high commendation from Mr. Heroy Clarke- Member of Parliament for Central St. James. He lauded the JPS Foundation for their continued support to the Farm Heights Community. These sentiments were echoed and further strengthened by Ms. Patrice Clarke- General Secretary of the Farm Heights Community Development Committee, who said “JPS Foundation has been our light in the darkness. The Community Development Committee appreciates the interest shown to the community and especially the investment they give to our children.”

While the pandemic has forced many events to be postponed and even cancelled, the JPS Foundation pivoted and powered on with its Summer Camp Ablaze, and positively impacted the lives of fifty youths in the community of Farm Heights.  The JPS Foundation endeavours to continue to impact society in these uncertain times and beyond.
