JPS President Announces Major Restoration Milestones

(Kingston – Tuesday, November 11, 2025)   JPS is in the process of getting the city of Montego Bay up and running, among several other major restoration milestones.  The announcement was made by JPS President and CEO, Hugh Grant at a media briefing held at the Office of the Prime Minister today.

The President told the briefing that this morning, the Sangster’s International Airport and the popular Hip Strip were energized.  Service has also been restored to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, Catherine Mount and Reading NWC Pumps, Fairview Shopping Centre and Fairview Community in St. James.  The Company is also looking to power up Freeport by tonight, supporting the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector which helps to stimulate economic activity nationally.

Other major milestones announced by Grant, included the steady progress being made in the parishes of Clarendon, Manchester, Portland, St. Mary and St. Ann.  In St. Ann, the progress includes the restoration of service to St. Ann’s Bay Hospital, the Infirmary in St. Ann’s Bay, the Ocho Rios Pier, Dunns River Falls and sections of the town of Ocho Rios.  JPS has energized 17 out of 21 major public hospitals islandwide. All this, the CEO points out, is the result of the strategic restoration protocol established by JPS – which sees essential services being brought on line first, followed by large commercial centres and communities, which together play a key role in enabling normalcy to return to our people.

Western Jamaica

Full restoration of western Jamaica will be a long haul, the President explained, as the company will have to redesign and rebuild the transmission and distribution network serving these parishes, while prioritizing critical facilities.

However, a few areas in St. Elizabeth have already been restored, such as Junction, Southfield and nearby communities – being served by lines out of Manchester.  JPS will continue to work to restore residents, in keeping with its restoration priority order.

The President thanks JPS employees, and the many local and overseas partners and collaborators, for their support and ongoing work, which has helped accomplish significant progress in 14 days.  JPS remains committed to returning power safely and as timely as possible and thanks the people of Jamaica for their support, understanding and patience.
