CUSTOMERS RESTORED:
All parishes now have customers restored in some sections. Notable progress continues to be made in western parishes that were hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa, with several customers having been restored. However, widespread damage requires major network rebuilding, which is under way.
- As of Wednesday, January 7, approximately 91% of customers have supply. Approximately 9% of customers remain without power, down from 77% at the start of restoration.
- Work continues across the island, with priority still being given to critical sites, economic zones, and town centres in the hardest hit parishes.
DAMAGE ASSESSMENT: Damage assessment has now been completed on 100% of distribution feeders, and also on the transmission network and substations.

Heightened stakeholder engagement critical to difficult “last mile” of JPS restoration
(January 8, 2026 – Kingston, Jamaica) JPS has highlighted strong stakeholder engagement as a critical factor in the progress being made to restore electricity to the remaining ten per cent of customers, as the company works through the most challenging phase of restoration — the “last mile”.
During a restoration update provided to Minister of Energy, Daryl Vaz, at the JPS Incident Command Center in Whitehouse, Westmoreland, President and CEO, Hugh Grant, outlined how ongoing collaboration with local representatives has helped to strengthen and refine restoration efforts across the parish.

Additional specialised vehicles deployed to boost restoration in western Jamaica
(Kingston – January 3, 2026) JPS is intensifying its push to restore power to all affected customers, with the addition of 175 specialised vehicles to the fleet assigned to restoration efforts in the west of the island. With approximately ninety per cent of customers — about 630,000— now with supply, the company is in the last mile of island-wide restoration. The additional vehicles include trailers, pickup trucks, digger derricks and excavators.

JPS Delivers on Restoration Targets Announced in November.
(December 10, 2025) JPS has delivered on its projected December restoration targets, which were announced at a media briefing held on November 13 in Montego Bay – thereby marking a major milestone in the national recovery effort following the passage of the devastating Category 5 Hurricane Melissa.
The company has now delivered on several commitments it had made to the nation in early November, as it tackled the tremendous task of rebuilding the transmission and distribution infrastructure which had suffered catastrophic damage from the hurricane.
