Change in Deposit Requirement

Dear Customers,

We hope you are doing well and staying safe.
If your electricity supply has been disconnected twice since June 1 of this year, this means that the deposit on your account will be upgraded to the new minimum deposit amount for your account type. This is in keeping with the new deposit requirement for both residential and small commercial customers.

(The new minimum requirement is $6,000 for residential accounts and $10,000 for small commercial accounts, and only applies to new accounts and those disconnected twice since June 1.) But you don’t need to pay the full $6,000 or $10,000. For residential accounts, you are only required to pay the difference between $6,000 and the deposit we already have on our system. Small commercial customers are only required to pay the difference between the $10,000 and the deposit we already have for you on our system. For both account types, this will be reflected as a line item on the next bill.

Please note that additional disconnections, after the two since June 1, will result in the deposit on the account (whether residential or small commercial) being further upgraded.
The recent change in the deposit requirements for residential accounts and small commercial accounts, comes after more than 10 years of them being unchanged and are based on the Terms and Conditions of Service for deposit upgrades.

As usual, we encourage you – if you are having difficulty making payments, do contact us so that we can see how best we may work together to help you. We prefer to keep you connected and to support you in the many things that matter to you.

Yours sincerely,
THE JAMAICA PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY
