Deposits

When you open an account with JPS, we require you to pay a security deposit.

We require for Residential Customers a security deposit of $1,500  and  for Business Customers a security deposit of $6,000.

All deposits accrue interest annually, and you will see this  interest in a separate line on your electricity bill.

Existing customers will not be required to update their security deposits unless the account is disconnected for delinquency, or if a system upgrade is requested.

 

Why do we require security deposits?

We normally use your deposit  –( normally cash) –  to secure your outstanding account balance. The amount of the deposit is based upon the type of electricity usage history at your address. We normally require them from customers who are:

  • New to Jamaica Public Service Company.
  • If your electricity service is disconnected for non-payment of bills you may be required to increase your deposit.
