JPS and WIHCON Officially Open Smart House – Futuristic Technology Operates House

JPS and West Indies Home Contractors (WIHCON), have launched their first Smart House, in the community of Meadows of Irwin, St. James.  The house is equipped with advanced automation, capable of combining, controlling and monitoring various electronic devices in the home, via a desktop computer or a mobile device such as the cell phone or tablet.

The smart home includes security features that allow users to access cameras remotely, detect break-ins and send alerts to activate alarm systems.  The home also gives the resident the power to carry out functions remotely, such as turning on lights, turning on home sprinkler systems for watering and detecting water leaks.  Additionally, the smoke detector is capable of sending an alarm to the resident’s cell phone; audio visual systems may be set to provide music, messages, or other data at specified times; window blinds can be set to open or close at specific times, and appliances such as air conditioners or televisions, may be set to turn on or off at identified times.  The home is further equipped with a car charging station, for electric vehicles.

Speaking at the official opening, the Mayor of Montego Bay, His Worship Councillor Homer Davis, congratulated JPS, WIHCON and the other collaborating partners – ATL, G-Network Solutions and Blinds Concepts on this milestone achievement. The Mayor indicated his delight in the development taking place and assured the parties that they could rely on his support as they worked to advance the customers’ experiences and options in the provision of electricity and other services.

JPS President & CEO, Kelly Tomblin, who also addressed the audience at the function held to officially open the house, noted that JPS is truly moving to become the utility of the future.  This year, she pointed out, has been particularly meaningful, as the Company has achieved ground-breaking milestones which will benefit all of Jamaica. Just last month the Company celebrated the arrival of Natural Gas in Jamaica and now the development of the first Smart Home, to take energy management and convenience to the next level.

WIHCON’s General Manager for Development, Aisha Campbell, in her remarks, pointed to the new and exciting opportunity that the development of the smart house represents for home owners and providers alike.  This, she noted, now opens the door for the provision of added value and customization to those seeking home ownership in the future.
